Latest on Regulation

In October 2010 the Charity Commission launched a public consultation on its future role and focus in light of a real terms funding cut of 33% by 2014/15.  The charity regulator is seeking to review its its key priorities for the next five years and develop a new strategy which can be delivered within the resources available.

The Charity Commission has now published the initial conclusions and next steps, following the first stage of the review. These can be found on the Charity Commission strategic review site.

CFG submitted a response to the consultation, which stressed that changes to the Commission should not compromise the regulator's ability to maintain public trust and confidence in the sector.  It also recommended that the Charity Commission works strategically with other organisations to disseminate information and provide support to the sector.

In the June 2010 Budget it was announced that the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills will undertake a fundamental review of regulation.  Measures included a one in one out proposal, sunset clauses and departmental reviews of employment laws.

CFG will engage with Government on this issue to achieve that right balance between regulation and risk and to ensure the views of our members and the sector are represented.
