CFDG launches new group in the West Midlands

Charities across the region are set to benefit from the launch of a West Midlands branch of the Charity Finance Directors' Group, supported by accountancy firm Baker Tilly, on 22 July 2004 in Birmingham.

CFDG, a successful membership charity with almost 1000 members nationwide, is extending its regional presence by creating a new centre of activities within easy reach of Birmingham. With a mission to promote excellence in the management of charities, CFDG provides information, training and a voice of authority for finance staff of charities. Regular members meetings provide presentations on key issues in charity management as well as networking opportunities.

The new West Midlands Group launch includes a seminar on the two most vital new publications affecting the sector, the Charities Bill and the revised Charities SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice). The launch will then formally be celebrated with an early evening reception run jointly with regional corporate partner Baker Tilly.

Delegates on the day will profit from the presentations of expert speakers. To start with, the parliamentary process of the Charities Bill and changes in the way charities will be regulated will be discussed by Richard Corden from the Home Office, the Manager of the Charities Bill and by Ann Phillips, member of the Committee of the Charity Law Association and a partner at Stone King Solicitors.

Furthermore, proposed changes to charities' reporting and accounting requirements (SORP) will be reviewed. These are central to the work of CFDG members and will be explained by Ken Ashford, senior accountant at the Charity Commission and member of the Review Committee and Mike Huggins who is a partner and charities specialist from Baker Tilly.

The guest of honour at the launch of the CFDG Members Group is David Taylor, a Charity Commissioner, and formerly a Chair of CFDG and Finance Director of WWF-UK.

The seminar will take place at the Copthorne Hotel in central Birmingham and will start at 2.30pm with tea, coffee and registration. The launch of the CFDG Members Group launch starts at 5pm.
