30th October 2008

Kevin Brennan, Minister for the Third Sector said "I understand the challenges that charities face in times of economic uncertainty and the Government is committed to supporting them. I'm grateful to the third sector leaders for gathering the evidence on what charities have lost in the Icelandic banking crisis. The Government is doing everything it can to support affected organisations and I will urgently consider the third sector leaders' findings with colleagues in the Treasury."

Stuart Etherington, NCVO and Ernese Skinner, CFDG and John Low, CAF and Stephen Bubb, ACEVO said: “We had a constructive meeting with both the Office of The Third Sector and The Treasury. We urge the Government to consider a loan guarantee scheme for those most at risk and we want them to act as quickly as possible. During recession charities have increased pressure to help the vulnerable so they need these funds more than ever.
