CFDG and Agenda Consulting launch Finance CountTM 2010

6th October 2009

The Charity Finance Directors’ Group (CFDG) and Agenda Consulting have launched Finance Count 2010, the leading financial management benchmarking study for the Third Sector. Finance Count is a tailor-made tool, providing highlights of performance on over 200 key measures and a comparison of participants’ performance with seven to twenty peers of their choice. Participation in the study will provide:

• early warning of potential issues;
• reassurance on what is working well;
• help in determining priorities and setting targets;
• provides evidence to support change;
• new insights on good practice;
• an enhanced ability to report back to management and trustees.

Keith Hickey, CFDG CEO, says, “we are very pleased to be bringing Finance Count 2010 to the sector with Agenda Consulting. The 2009 PKF and CFDG Risk Survey, published in September, highlighted the fact that charities have planned well in the short term and are coping with the recession.

But with difficult conditions continuing charities need to plan more strategically and for the long term. In allowing charities to understand and benchmark their performance, Finance Count will be a key tool in helping charities’ to manage their risks, and to move safely through the recession.”

Finance Count 2010 is now open for booking, and anyone signing up before 17th November will receive an early bird discount; the deadline for booking is 27th November. The final report will be published and sent out to participants in February 2010, and workshops will be held from March to July 2010.

Areas covered in the study include: transaction processing; internal and external reporting; control and decision support; analysis of the finance function; central function costs; trading; and investment management.

New features for 2010 include:

• new questions on liquidity, pensions and foreign exchange;
• drill-down reports to analyse your performance on particular measures;
• a colour-coded organisation scorecard;
• four workshops;
• online access to Agenda’s finance benchmarking database and case studies for twelve months;
• the ability to view your figures from the previous year in order to track our progress.

Also new this year is a free information session that will be held on 12th November, 11am – 2pm, at the CFDG offices at 1, London Bridge. This session will provide an opportunity to discuss Finance Count and to hear a case study from Peter Bradbury, Chief Financial Officer at Arthritis Research Campaign.
