CFDG welcomes Funding Commission report

6th December 2010

The Charity Finance Directors’ Group welcome the release of the Funding Commission’s report ‘Funding the Future: A 10-year framework for civil society’.

The report recognises that funders and commissioners must assist civil society organisations (CSOs) to make the most of their resources, increase their impact and maximise their efficiency.  CFDG looks forward to leading on some aspects of the recommendations and helping CSOs increase their skills, efficiency and effectiveness.  As a body committed to promoting best practice and driving efficiency in charity finance, CFDG welcome the opportunity to provide support wherever we can.

In particular, CFDG is working with charities and other organisations in researching and developing strategies for increasing recording and reporting of impact.  CFDG hopes to promote proportionate and innovative ways in which organisations use their impact reporting as a constructive part of their activities; moving reporting away from pure compliance.  This will be key in enabling charities to compete effectively for services and funding, and to be accountable to the donor.

Caron Bradshaw, Chief Executive of CFDG, commented:

‘If the Funding Commission recommendations deliver a fraction of what they set out to do, the work will have a significant impact on the sector and prove to be a force for good.’
