CFDG Northern Conference to be held in Leeds on 23rd June 2010

7th June 2010

CFDG will be holding their annual Northern Conference at the Royal Armouries in Leeds on the 23rd June 2010.

Running just one day after the Budget, this conference promises to give a fascinating insight into the current working environment for charities and some of the key issues facing the sector. Pesh Framjee, head of the Not-For-Profit Unit at Horwarth Clark Whitehill, will close the day by giving his thoughts on the year ahead and the operations of charities in an uncertain climate.

In light of the Big Society agenda, Sandie Foxhall-Smith, the CEO of St Peter’s Hospice and new arrival from the corporate world, will talk about how the sector can take the best from corporate thinking while maintaining what makes it uniquely a charity.  Alongside these plenary speeches the conference will offer a range of practical workshops on hot topics which include ‘Transparency and Accountability’, ‘Fraud and Whistleblowing’, and an essential update on Tax, VAT and Gift Aid. Additionally, there will be a workshop dedicated to looking at the impact of Total Place on the sector, which is also proving to be an important area for charities considering the localised focus of the new Coalition Government’s view of ‘Big Society.’

This conference also marks Caron Bradshaw’s first public appearance as CFDG’s new CEO. Caron will be talking to members about the vision for CFDG moving forward. David Membrey, Acting CEO of CFDG, said “the timing of this years Northern Conference means that it provides an excellent opportunity for key stakeholders to respond to recent proposals regarding the sector, and revelations that are sure to emerge out of the Budget.”

This conference is kindly sponsored by Grant Thornton and Lloyds Commercial
