Guide to writing a charity investment policy launched

9th March 2012

Charity Finance Group and Charity Investors’ Group have today launched a support guide to help charities in writing their investment policy, Writing your charity’s investment policy – a guide. The guide includes a model template covering all the core aspects that should be included in a charity’s investment policy and a range of good practice examples.

Caron Bradshaw, CEO of Charity Finance Group said, ‘Charities hold over £85bn in investment assets and it’s crucial that they have proper governance in place. A written policy provides the framework for making investment decisions, helping trustees to manage a charity’s resources effectively and demonstrate good governance. We are regularly approached by charities seeking support, guidance and good practice examples of how others have developed their policy, so we know that this practical guide will be a valuable resource for many.’

Kate Rogers, Chair of the Charity Investors’ Group said, ‘Investment is a complex subject and having a written policy ensures that trustees and investment managers are clear about what the charity wants to achieve with its investments. We are delighted that the Charity Commission will signpost to this from their guidance Charities and investment matters: A guide for trustees.’
