Charity Finance Group applaud government announcement to drop the charity tax

31st May 2012

Charity Finance Group applauds the government for taking a brave step and doing what is right by dropping the ‘charity tax’ and not dragging this out into an unnecessary consultation.

Caron Bradshaw, CEO of Charity Finance Group said:

‘We previously made the point that as charities are suffering unprecedented levels of financial pressure, the cap on tax reliefs could not have come at a worse time. Hopefully the message sent out by the chancellor today will go some way to addressing the damage that had been caused by this step. We really pleased that the government have shown real leadership and strength in listening to the concerns, not just of the charity sector, but all those who desire a strong and vibrant civil society.

Often the sector is accused of failing to speak with one voice, this is excellent example of exactly how charities can come together to bring about positive change.
