Tribute to Dan Phelan, owner and editor-in-chief of Civil Society Media

13th February 2015

Comment from Ian Theodoreson, Chair of CFG, on the death of Dan Phelan, owner and editor-in-chief of Civil Society Media:

“The board and staff of CFG are deeply saddened to hear to the passing of Dan Phelan.

Over the years Dan had been a friend to the sector and in particular to charity finance professionals.  Dan was an enthusiastic supporter of CFG from its earliest days - championing improvements in charity finance standards.

He will perhaps be best remembered amongst CFG members as the Editor-in-Chief of Charity Finance Magazine. But of course there were many other ways in which Dan extended his support to CFG over the years, including partnering on the Charity Finance Yearbook (the successor to the Charity Finance Directors’ Handbook) which he did from 1996. Many CFG members will have enjoyed Dan’s hospitality at the annual Charity Awards (at which he rightly received recognition for his work last year).

It is very sad to say goodbye to someone of integrity, value and deeply held beliefs who was so much more than a business owner and entrepreneur. Our deepest sympathies are extended to Dan’s family, friends and staff team.”
