Charity Trustee Information Needs: Can Enterprise Performance Management systems help?

This report, produced by Oxford Brookes University and published by CFG, explores how charities might benefit from Information Technology (IT), in particular ‘Enterprise Performance Management’ (EPM) systems.

It looks at how EPM systems can help charities to provide their trustees with information that meets their needs - particularly in relation to trustees' ability to interpret financial information.

The research project was carried out by Oxford Brookes University, and it was supported by ICAS and The Scottish Accountancy Trust for Education and Research (SATER), now known as the ICAS Foundation.

  • Navigating the Charity Pension Maze 2014

    Pensions Maze 2014

    10/07/2014

CFG’s latest flagship publication in The Pension Maze series is an exciting endeavour to guide charities' financial leaders through the complex world of pensions. Six years on from the last edition much has changed in charities’ pensions practice as the 2004 changes have fed through the system, auto-enrolment has taken its grip on employees large and small. Coupled with the announcements made in the Chancellor's 2014 Budget and the raft of other recent pension reforms, the publication is more important than ever.

The Pension Maze explains to charities the bewildering array of complex pension issues and risk that charities face. It also serves to highlight those critical risk issues which are of concern to the sector and have wider policy implications.

The Pension Maze publication was produced in collaboration with Foster Denovo, Premier Pensions and Spence and Partners.

  • International Financial Reporting Standards and Charities

International Financial Reporting Standards and Charities

    01/03/2010

International Financial Reporting Standards and Charities

Charity accounting and reporting is facing significant change as a result of new international standards, and a debate between other sectors on public benefit accounting. This document sets out the main issues for finance directors and audit committees.

The document explains the important differences between IFRS for SMEs and:
    • the Charity SORP
    • the other SORPs covering housing and the HE/FE sectors
    • UK GAAP and full IFRS.

It explains how the existing SORP’s requirements are likely to change either to comply with the IFRS for SMEs, or as a result of the three not-for-profit SORPs being under pressure to harmonise. It encourages charities to understand the implications for their own accounts, and be ready to influence the debate and to prepare their own systems. The document provides a summary of the issues of most significance. Each section sets out the differences between the IFRS for SMEs and current guidance, with a scoring of the significance.
